This is the vaunted Saudi military we’re supporting with our tax dollars?
All the king’s forces and all the king’s men couldn’t sink an unarmed fishing trawler
The Saudi war effort in Yemen, yes that war effort that Trump and Jerrod Kushner insist on supporting with your tax dollars, is both pathetic and cruel and inhumane at the same time.
Consider the following news item: Saudis, who have made attacking civilians policy in their war to support the ousted dictator of Yemen, killing thousands of civilians at funerals, weddings and even in a school bus, and prompting a historic humanitarian crisis, apparently also attack unarmed civilian fishing boats out on the water hoping to feed Yemeni families. They attacked one fishing trawler with warships, helicopters, and fighter jets, and failed to sink it.
While I am happy to report that one group of fishermen was able to return to their families despite the best efforts of the elite Saudi military, it makes me wonder: with all the resources that we are providing their military, are they so incompetent that they can’t sink an unarmed fishing trawler?
Perhaps their incompetence is the reason they have so aggressively targeted civilians with their attacks. After all, it is much easier — at least we would assume so — to attack unarmed civilians than it is to attack legitimate military targets that shoot back.
So if we assume that supporting the Saudi military in their war on Yemen is a legitimate policy — not something I am willing to assume, but for the sake of argument — then one wonders if they are even a good investment.
