It is amazing the stories we tell ourselves to justify our beliefs. It is evidence that we construct our own realities, and it is important to constantly question and challenge our beliefs to make sure we are not similarly deceiving ourselves. I do believe, however, that everything that happens in society has a spiritual basis, that it happens for a greater reason that we might not be able to understand. I often wonder why Trump was elected — there were clearly greater forces at play to make it happen. Perhaps the reason is that much of our population needed to be woken up politically. I have been working most of my life to get people to care about how politics affects them. Finally, as shown by the turnout in the midterm election, it appears that people are starting to understand the relationship.

Thanks for your really thoughtful response!
