I really respect and appreciate your comments. Indeed, I agree with most of what you wrote. Here is my concern. You wrote that “the three perennial idols are; militarism, materialism, and ethnocentric nationalism.” Again, in general, I agree with your sentiment. However, Sarah Huckabee Sanders and others would likely argue that the reason Trump was elected was because we turned out back on the commands of the Bible regarding homosexuality, for example. They can point to Leviticus 18:22 just as you point to Deuteronomy. The point is that I get concerned whenever we try to determine what are the false idols we are worshiping. As humans, limited as we are in our ability to know the mind of God, we can only do what is the best of our ability and have faith in God for the rest.
